A porcelain veneer is a thin, custom-crafted shell of dental ceramic that bonds permanently to the front of your tooth. Think of it as a hand-painted facade — the thickness of a contact lens — that transforms the shape, color, length, alignment, or overall appearance of the underlying tooth without affecting the back.
Modern porcelain veneers are made from advanced dental ceramics (typically lithium disilicate or feldspathic porcelain) that mimic the way natural enamel reflects light. When properly designed and placed by an experienced cosmetic dentist, they're virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
Veneers solve a wide range of cosmetic concerns in a single procedure:
- Discolored teeth that don't respond to whitening (intrinsic staining, tetracycline staining, fluorosis)
- Chipped, worn, or fractured teeth
- Slightly crooked teeth that don't require full orthodontic treatment
- Gaps between teeth (small to moderate)
- Uneven or worn-down edges
- Misshapen teeth (peg-shaped laterals, small teeth)
- Aging smile — restoring the brightness and shape of a younger smile
Veneer cost in Jupiter, FL
Porcelain veneer pricing at Sunset Smiles is determined by case complexity, material selection, and the number of teeth involved. Here are typical investment ranges in our Jupiter office:
Single porcelain veneer
For repairing a single chipped, worn, or discolored tooth. Includes consultation, smile design, custom porcelain fabrication, and placement. Material and lab quality affects pricing — we'll explain options at consultation.
Full upper smile (6 veneers)
Covers the upper front six teeth — the ones most visible when you smile and laugh. The most popular smile makeover option for moderate cases.
Complete smile makeover (8-10 veneers)
The full transformation — typically 8-10 veneers covering the upper teeth visible when smiling broadly. Includes complete smile design, mock-up preview, and color matching to your skin tone and face shape.
Why is there such a wide range? Three factors drive the price: (1) Materials — high-end feldspathic porcelain from a master ceramist costs more than pressed lithium disilicate, but gives a more lifelike result. (2) Case complexity — bite issues, severe discoloration, or significant reshaping all add chair time and lab work. (3) The artistry of the dentist and ceramist — veneers are as much art as dentistry. We don't compete on price; we compete on results that look like teeth, not Chiclets.
Most veneer cases are not covered by dental insurance because they are classified as cosmetic. Sunset Smiles offers Cherry financing with 0% APR options — a full smile makeover at $15,000 can be financed at approximately $325/month for 60 months. See the financing section below.
The veneer process — step by step
From first consultation to final smile, the porcelain veneer process at Sunset Smiles takes about 3-4 weeks across three or four appointments.
Appointment 1: Free consultation & smile design
You meet with Dr. Martinez to discuss your goals, what you like and don't like about your current smile, and what's realistic. She'll take photos, perform a comprehensive exam, and may do a digital mock-up showing what your new smile could look like — before you commit to anything.
What we'll discuss: tooth shape, length, color, your face shape, what celebrities or smiles you find attractive (yes, bringing reference photos is helpful), your bite, and your lifestyle. We'll also discuss alternatives if veneers aren't the best fit.
Appointment 2: Preparation & impressions (about 2 hours)
If you decide to proceed, this appointment is where the work happens. Dr. Martinez gently prepares each tooth by removing a very thin layer of enamel — typically 0.3-0.5mm, less than the thickness of a fingernail. This is done under local anesthesia, so you'll feel no pain.
We then take precise digital impressions (or traditional impressions, depending on the case) and choose the exact shade of porcelain that matches your goals. Temporary veneers are placed on your teeth so you can preview the new shape and color, and so the prepared teeth are protected while the lab crafts your finals.
Between appointments: 2-3 weeks
Your veneers are hand-crafted by a master dental ceramist. This is where the artistry happens — the technician layers porcelain by hand, baking it in stages, to create teeth that have the same translucency and color variation as natural enamel. Cheap veneers look opaque and chalky; well-crafted veneers have life and depth.
Appointment 3: Placement & bonding (about 90 minutes)
The temporaries come off and we try in your new veneers. Dr. Martinez checks the fit, color, and shape carefully — both at rest and when you smile, talk, and laugh. If anything needs adjustment, the lab can refine before bonding.
Once everything is perfect, the veneers are bonded to your prepared teeth using a strong dental adhesive that cures with a special light. The bond is permanent and exceptionally strong — bonded porcelain is one of the strongest restorations in modern dentistry.
Appointment 4: 2-week follow-up
A brief check-in to make sure everything feels right, your bite is comfortable, and your tissue is healthy around the veneers. Any final polishing or minor adjustments happen here. After this, you're on a normal 6-month cleaning schedule.
How long do veneers last?
Porcelain veneers, when properly designed, bonded, and cared for, are one of the most durable cosmetic dental restorations available.
| Type | Typical lifespan | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Porcelain veneers (Sunset Smiles) | 15–25+ years | Many last a lifetime with proper care. |
| Lumineers / "no-prep" veneers | 10–15 years | Thinner, less durable, more prone to chipping. |
| Composite (resin) veneers | 5–7 years | Stain easier, wear faster, but cheaper. |
What ends a veneer's lifespan is usually one of three things:
- Trauma — biting something very hard (ice, hard candy, popcorn kernels) can chip a veneer just like it can chip natural enamel.
- Bruxism — patients who grind their teeth at night without a guard can wear veneers down over time. A night guard solves this.
- Underlying gum recession — the veneer itself is fine, but if your gums recede, the unveneered tooth structure shows through. Often correctable.
The most common reason a veneer "fails" isn't actually failure — it's that the patient wants to update their look 20 years later when styles and their face have changed. Veneers can be replaced.
Are veneers right for me?
Veneers are an outstanding option for many patients, but not for everyone. You're likely a good candidate if:
- You're bothered by the color, shape, or position of your front teeth
- Your teeth and gums are generally healthy (we can treat any existing issues first)
- You have realistic expectations — veneers can dramatically improve your smile, but they should still look like teeth
- You're committed to long-term oral hygiene and regular dental visits
- If you grind your teeth, you're willing to wear a night guard
Veneers may not be the best option if:
- Your teeth are severely damaged or decayed — crowns may be more appropriate
- Your bite is significantly off — orthodontic treatment may be needed first
- You have active gum disease — must be treated first
- You're very young (under 18) — your jaw and gum line may still be changing
- Your concerns can be addressed with less-invasive options like whitening, bonding, or Invisalign
Dr. Martinez's approach: "I want patients to make the best decision for them, not the most expensive one. At your consultation, I'll show you what veneers would look like — but if I think bonding, whitening, or orthodontics would get you 90% of the result for 30% of the cost, I'll tell you that first. The goal is your best smile, not the biggest treatment plan."
Porcelain vs Lumineers vs composite vs crowns
There are several options for changing the appearance of your teeth. Here's how they compare:
| Option | Cost (per tooth) | Lifespan | Prep required | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Porcelain veneers | $1,200–$2,500 | 15–25+ yrs | Minimal (0.3–0.5mm) | Smile makeovers, durable results, color/shape changes |
| Lumineers (brand) | $800–$2,000 | 10–15 yrs | None or very minimal | Patients who absolutely don't want any prep; less ideal for major shape changes |
| Composite veneers | $300–$800 | 5–7 yrs | None | Budget-friendly, temporary fix, single tooth touch-up |
| Ceramic crowns | $1,400–$1,800 | 15–25+ yrs | Significant (1.5–2mm all around) | Teeth that are also damaged/decayed and need full coverage |
| Cosmetic bonding | $300–$600 | 5–10 yrs | None | Small chips, gaps, single-tooth fixes |
| ZOOM whitening | $500–$700 (full mouth) | 1–3 yrs per treatment | None | When the only issue is color, not shape |
| Invisalign | $3,500–$6,500 (full) | Permanent | None | Crooked or misaligned teeth where shape is fine |
Caring for your veneers
Veneers don't require special products or complicated routines. The same habits that keep natural teeth healthy keep veneers beautiful:
- Brush twice daily with non-abrasive toothpaste (avoid charcoal pastes and harsh whitening pastes — they can dull the surface)
- Floss daily — gum health around veneers is critical to long-term success
- Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. We can custom-fit one for you.
- Don't use teeth as tools — no opening packages, biting nails, chewing pens, or cracking nuts. Veneers and natural teeth both fail when used this way.
- Limit staining drinks on the unveneered portions of your teeth — coffee, red wine, dark soda. The porcelain itself doesn't stain, but the bonding margins can.
- Regular cleanings every 6 months — we use polishing pastes safe for porcelain.
- Annual exam to check the bonds, your bite, and gum health.
Financing options
Veneers are an investment in yourself that you wear every day for decades. We offer several ways to make them affordable:
Cherry — 0% APR financing
Most popular option for veneer patients. Cherry offers monthly payment plans starting at 0% APR (for qualified borrowers) with terms up to 60 months. Pre-qualification takes 60 seconds and doesn't affect your credit score.
Example: A $15,000 smile makeover financed over 60 months at 0% APR = approximately $250/month. Pre-qualify with Cherry →
Membership plan — 20% off
Members of our in-house membership plan ($30/month) get 20% off all veneer cases — a $15,000 smile makeover becomes $12,000. Membership plan details →
FSA / HSA
While insurance won't cover veneers, you may be able to use FSA or HSA funds — check with your plan administrator. We provide all documentation needed for reimbursement.
Phased treatment
If you want a full smile makeover but want to spread the cost across tax years, we can split the case — upper teeth this year, lower teeth next year. We'll plan the design so both phases work together visually.
