What to expect at your first appointment

A new patient visit at Sunset Smiles is unhurried, thorough, and focused on understanding your goals. Plan on 60-75 minutes. You'll meet our team, sit down with Dr. Martinez, get a complete clinical assessment, and leave with a clear understanding of your dental health — without any pressure to schedule treatment.

The first visit includes a comprehensive exam, full digital X-rays, a thorough cleaning, and a one-on-one conversation about anything you'd like to address. We never recommend a treatment plan in your first visit. We listen first.

Your first visit, walked through

Welcome & paperwork

Front-desk check-in, insurance verification, and a brief health form. Most patients are in the chair within 10 minutes.

Digital X-rays & photos

Complete digital X-rays plus intraoral photos. Up to 90% less radiation than traditional film. Images appear instantly.

Comprehensive exam

Dr. Martinez personally performs every new patient exam — teeth, gums, bite, jaw, plus oral cancer screening.

Professional cleaning

Thorough cleaning with modern ultrasonic tools — faster and more comfortable than older scrapers.

Conversation, not pressure

Dr. Martinez talks through what she found and your options. Take everything home and decide on your own time.

New patient FAQs

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. Call (561) 295-3430 or book online. We accept new patients of all ages.

Will my insurance be accepted?

We accept most major PPO plans — Aetna, Cigna, Delta, BlueCross BlueShield, Guardian, Humana, and more. See our insurance page for the full list. Call us with your card and we will verify benefits at no charge.

What if I don't have dental insurance?

You have great options. Our $30/month membership plan covers preventative care plus 20% off other services. We also offer Cherry financing with 0% APR options on cosmetic and restorative work.

How long is my first appointment?

Plan on 60-75 minutes. Subsequent cleanings are 45-60 minutes. We never run patients through assembly-line style.

Will I be pressured to schedule treatment?

No. Dr. Martinez explains everything she finds and your options, but the decision is yours. Take everything home in writing.

I have anxiety about the dentist. Can you help?

Yes. Let us know when you book — we will take extra time, explain things as we go, and take breaks whenever you need them.
